Last year the IAMA conference focused on the large national flagship orchestras but what about the orchestra who contributes significantly to music life of a city, who is not able to command high ticket prices, afford the super-famous artist or tour very often.? It's work though is the substance of most of the music business. Pressure on subsidies and the absence or difficulty raising private money to counteract budget contraints and choices to either compromise or cut activity. Join us in a discussion that gets real about the difficulties of the orchestra's management and how we can improve understanding and co-operation.

5:00pm - 6:00pm Constituency meeting for Chamber Orchestra managements: Observers welcome! Blue Hall - Palace of Arts A discussion lead by John Bickley, General Manager, The Sixteen
Chamber orchestras form one of the largest blocks within IAMA's Affiliate membership. They are under great pressures due to the fact that many do not receive state funding and have to survive on touring and private sponsorship. Their musicians are loyal and enterprising and thus, their determination to survive the current climate is an example to many.
Within the music canon, they fulfil an important niche role with size as one of their advantages. There are disadvantages too - touring has been very difficult. What strategies can be shared that help one another to survive hard time.
Grab a cup of coffee and join this interactive discussion the outcomes of which will be further researched by IAMA.
