Outstanding Young Artist Award
The Outstanding Young Artist Award is one of the principle awards at the MIDEM Classique Awards, presented by the MIDEM / IAMA partnership each year in Cannes during the MIDEM international media trade show. The award aims to introduce the as yet unsigned recording stars of the future to the Classical recording industry, and is central to the Young International Performers (YIP) programme run by IAMA for not-for-profit organisations who nurture young musicians at the beginnings of their careers.
Not-for-profit organisations which form part of the IAMA YIP programme may nominate a number of their young artists for the award. An international jury of IAMA members listens to unedited recordings of each artist, and selects the finalists. The 19-strong MIDEM Classique Awards Jury, an international panel mainly consisting of specialist music magazine and radio journalists, then listens to the finalists, and votes for the winner, who then performs at the awards ceremony in Cannes. IAMA is represented on the MIDEM Classique Awards Jury by Board member, Christian May.
Details of the nominations and IAMA Jury for the 2008 awards can be found here.

Topic: Managers & Artists - Rebuilding the Relationships in an Evolving Music Environment
Topic: Reaching the Mainstream” Workshop as part of the International Manager Summit.
Topic: The Changing World of Artist Management - International Perspectives in the Classical Music Sector
Artist management in the classical music sector is changing. Gone are the days of simply “shopping for artists” or blind calling promoters. Today the partnerships between artist, artist manager, promoter and media have to be approached in new ways. For the artist manager, there is an increasing expectation from the artist to know about much more about many things that make up the business. The promoter, whether Festival, Opera House, Venue or Orchestra have their own new dimensions of pressure from financial to the more cotemporary issue of media opportunity. Streaming, internet downloads and CD labels all contribute to promoting the art forms we wish society to enjoy but create other issues between the parties involved. This discussion will focus opinion on the partnership shifts today that makes up the changing world of artist management.
